Paper Fiber

Paper fibers are another clue that can be discovered at a crime scene. A burned match in an ashtray can match an empty spot in a matchbook found on a suspect.

MATERIALS:

     3 identical unused matchbooks
     hand lens
     paper
     pencil

PROCEDURE:

1. Tear one match out of each matchbook.
2. Throw two of the matches away.
3. Use the hand lens to examine the end of the match and the broken ends found in
    each of the three matchbooks.
