Daylily - genus Hemerocallis
The daylily is a flowering plant that is so named because the flowers only last about a day. Generally they open in the morning and are withered and in pieces by the following day. Most of the interesting transformation takes place in the morning over a span of about four hours. When fully open, the flower is about six inches in diameter and has fantastic details.
Intervalometer in studio
In order to capture the flower's opening, a small studio was assembled with a 2'X2' softbox light and a Canon G9 camera. The G9 has an internal intervalometer which allows can be set to take pictures at a specific intervals. For this project, the G9 was set to take one image every 10 minutes. In the image below, the G9 is the small camera on top of the tripod.
